This tree is the only remaining tree (it was just a sapling) from the original grounds of the WTC. The tree was found 33 days after the attack. It was nursed back to health and planted on the grounds. Irene came through and pulled it out of the ground and again it had to be nursed back to health. People put money on the tree and it is collected daily and put into the Firefighter and policeman funds.
These are the only two steel beams saved. All the rest have been melted down and the steel is used to make airplanes.
I have never heard about the little tree and the monitary gifts left on it. That is so fabulous! I so love that idea!
